3.
Why is it important to educate youth on agriculture?
I
think it is important to teach youth about agriculture so they
gain knowledge about the topic but also know where certain items
come from that are part of everyday life.

What is your background in agriculture and/or education?
I
have a strong background in agriculture. I am a 12-year member
of McPherson County 4-H and am currently serving on the McPherson
County 4-H Fairboard. While in 4-H, I showed Brown Swiss Dairy
cows and still continue that today. I am a member of both the
Kansas Junior Brown Swiss Association and the National Brown Swiss
Junior Association. I also showed swine and sheep while in 4-H,
so I have a great deal of love for agriculture, as I come from
an agriculture-based family. I was also involved with FFA all
four years of high school. I served as the Moundridge-Hesston
FFA Secretary my Sophomore and Junior years and as Chapter President
my Senior year. My background in education is that I have always
wanted to be a teacher. In my last year in 4-H, Mr. Brandon Barr,
who judged our county's spring dairy show and is currently the
advisor at Council Grove, told me "We need a lot of good
women Ag teachers." That made my mind up to teach agriculture
education. I want to teach agriculture education because I love
agriculture and I want my students to gain enough knowledge so
they can love it just as much as I do.
